The Pablo Casals Festival

Located between Vinçŕ and Marquixanes, 2 miles South of N116 motorway, Espira de Conflent stands like a panoramic viewpoint, at the lower foothills of mount Canigou . The village is nestled deep in an unsuspected valley, sheltered from the tramontana. To the visitors, it gives a feeling of lost paradise with the trickle of the Llech brook that runs trough green meadows and orchards...

About a hundred of inhabitants dwell in the village year round but many more in summertime. The charm of the place arises from old houses that circle the castle with its look-out turret, but overall, the church is indeed exceptional with its baroque furniture.

This church is a museum altogether : the only visitors are connoisseurs and their acquaintances that share the pleasure to discover the five altarpieces, the ten large carved panels and the confessionals.

The whole baroque ensemble was designed around the year 1700 by Maestro Joseph SUNYER or under his guidance.
