The village history is marked by an ancient and important mining activity. Iron ore was extracted from several mines. The last mine closed in 1962. Miners coming from different countries suffered exhausting conditions and almost all of them had to assume a second job as tiller or lumberjack after their working day in the mine. Vestiges of stone and iron constructions can still be seen, that were used to convey the ore to Ria-Sirach railway station..
Saint-Félix church is located in the centre. The cut stone steeple bears small columns with carved chapiters on each side of the openings, at bells level.
In summer, Fillols is the site of a “Comic strip festival”. This renowned celebration is the occasion for three festive days. Inhabitants and visitors participate. The two village cafés are full up and insure a pleasant atmosphere.
