Nestled at the foothill of mount Canigou , in the Cady valley, this famous season resort enjoys sulphurous waters that attract flocks of clients since 150 years.
Vernet-les-Bains acquired its fame between 1850 et and WW1 and was invaded by a crowd of international aristocrats.
This glorious era called “La belle époque” has left traces such as the Grand Hôtel du Portugal and the Casino. In remembrance of those times, since 1993, Vernet celebrates "La belle époque" during the week end of Ascension.
The mining activity that prevailed in the XIXth century, also left its image in the scenery. Iron-ore was extracted from La Peña and treated in two furnaces whose towers stand as token of the past.
The dungeon of the Count of Cerdagne castle, built on an ancient oppidum, overlooks the entire city.
