This very old village whose name appears for the first time in 901, is located near N116 motorway, a few miles off Vinça, on the foothills of mount Canigou . A river runs nearby the houses. Narrows shadowy streets offer the lingering strollers an opportunity to admire the splendid façades of the mansions, evidence that in the past, rich landlords had their estate cultivated by day laborers.
Finestret is a crossing of hike path (GR in french) : GR36 leads to Valmanya, sall village nestled in the mountains, and GR10 that leads to Canigou.

The church is dedicated to Sainte Colombe and displays altarpieces of the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries.
