 CUIXA CULTURAL ASSOCIATION 

The Cuixŕ Cultural Association brings together the persons interested in Saint-Michel de Cuxa abbey (Catalan : Sant Miquel de Cuixŕ), in the Conflent valley (Pyrénées-Orientales, France), persons that wish to act in common in order to  radiate as far as feasible the values born by the abbey, a historical landmark of the pre-roman and European roman art, a rare witness of Catalonia history during the Middle Ages. The abbey that still shelters a Benedictine community of monks, stands a summit of spirituality and a noteworthy example of the issues and cultural practices related to the patrimony during the XX^th century.

Founded in 1967 by Pierre RESPAUT, the Association holds its “Journées Romanes” (Romanesque culture days) since 1969. Every year, a workshop opens for a week of studies on pre-roman and roman art, switching from high standard lectures by the best lecturers, to guided visits of roman constructions in Roussillon , Cerdagne, Catalogne and neighbourhood. Every year it publishes, since 1970, “Les Cahiers de Saint-Michel de Cuxa”, proceedings of the “Journées Romanes”, where are detailed the scientific participations of the lecturers. These publications have become, in thirty years, a prestigious scientific review that can be found in all major history and art history libraries of France and abroad.

The Cuixŕ Cultural Association is open to anyone. Membership is a support and allows new members to participate ; it demonstrates your interest for the abbey, its history and its restoration : a battle still to be fought.
