The iron way 

Since the antiquity until their shutdown in the XXth century, the Catalan forges were renowned and produced a high quality iron that was used to manufacture arms, armors, ironworks and tools. The main gate of the Versailles castle are made of Catalan wrought iron. A number of construction works such as tunnels, cast iron furnaces, inclined planes, railway tracks, sprang from the mining and treatment of iron-ore. For centuries, entire families worked in the iron activity. On the iron way you will find splendid paths around mount Canigou, that will take you over the touching vestiges of the miners ; you will walk side by side with “the men of the iron” to day disappeared but still alive in their secular remains.
